Whilst we certainly agree that a dog crate is not absolutely necessary to raise a happy and well-behaved Husky, there are many benefits to using one that also can’t be ignored. That’s where a dog crate can become very handy. They provide a cosy confine for your Husky to hide in if necessary allowing them to fulfil their ancestral instincts that would have lead them to cave-like structures if they were scared.

Siberian Huskies are unfortunately known for developing destructive behaviours if they aren’t given necessary training but we understand that sometimes these behaviours can arise in even in the most obedient dogs. Having a dog crate for your Husky gives you a place to keep them confined if you have to leave them unoccupied, meaning they can’t raid the garbage or chew up your shoes!
One of the best ways we’ve found to instil good habits into our Siberian Huskies it to use a pet crate. For example, if we are eating and our Huskies decide to push their luck and beg for food, we will simply take them to their crate. They don’t associate the crate with being punished and so it won’t be a negative experience for them, but it is a reminder that they should be out of the way when we are eating and that as humans, we have the final say in the household.
There are many more benefits than those listed above that may differ depending on your Husky’s needs. Not every Siberian Husky will respond well to being in a crate, especially if they have not been brought up with one or if they come from kennels where a crate can be seen as a restrictive tool.
At the end of the day, the important thing is that a dog crate should be used as a positive tool to help bring your Husky up. It should never be seen as a form of punishment or else you risk losing your Husky’s trust.

This one is probably a given, but the crate must be large enough to accommodate your Siberian Husky. It’s also where the difficulty comes in for us as reviewers as Huskies can vary so much in height, length and weight! Always check your Husky’s size against the product manufacturer’s provided sizing chart before purchasing. Keep in mind that ideally, you’ll want the crate to be big enough for your Husky to be comfortable in but not so large that they don’t feel secure.
We know of many Siberian Huskies who have a reputation for being escape artists so it’s important that their dog crate has secure doors with high-quality latches. Ideally, you’ll want your crate to be double-latched to make escaping harder and we recommend reading the product reviews to see what other owners have experienced. Whilst they aren’t necessary, we also recommend dog crates that have double doors for Siberian Huskies. These make gaining access to your Husky much easier and it’ll give you more options when positioning the crate within your home.
Large dog crates require much thicker wire to retain their structural integrity and remain safe for your Siberian Husky to use. Not only that but in the eventuality that your Husky decides to chew at the wire, it must be strong enough to withstand them. It’s pretty much guaranteed to big enough for your Siberian Husky, even if they’re on the giant side, and it is suitable for dogs weighing up to and over 110lbs. Whilst a crate of this size can be difficult to accommodate for, it’s one of the only ones of the market that’s large enough to comfortably fit a Husky for long periods of time (overnight) without them feeling too claustrophobic.
There’s no need to worry about the strength or durability of this crate either. Its made from a study drop pin construction that includes patent-pending L-hooks that prevent the sides from bowing in. All of the metal has an E Coat finish to prevent it from rusting, ensuring the crate can be used for as many years as required. The composite plastic pan can be easily removed to make cleaning a breeze.

When it comes to high quality for a low price, the AmazonBasics Dog Crate is hard to beat. The durable metal construction is made with thick double wiring that helps keep your Husky secure whilst maintaining a good level of visibility and ventilation. It comes with a removable composite tray to make cleaning up messes as easy as possible and the entire thing can be folded flat making it perfect to travel with or store.
We recommend the largest size crate (48”) as it can be difficult to predict how big an Siberian Husky puppy will grow.
What we particularly love about this crate is that it comes with an adjustable divider panel. This means you can reduce the space given to your Husky when they are a puppy and expand it as they grow. It may seem counter-intuitive to give your Husky puppy less space, but this can prevent them from associating one side of the crate with using the potty and the other for sleeping.

Travelling with an Siberian Husky is not an easy task, especially when it comes to flights. Luckily, there are travel crates available to buy that make transporting your Husky a breeze, although finding one large enough to safely fit them is understandably tricky.
Our go-to choice is the Rolling Plastic Travel Dog Crate by SportPet Designs which can carry dogs up to 26 inches in height and 36 inches in length. The weight limit is 140lbs. Whilst these dimensions should be big enough to house the majority of Siberian Huskies, we always advise you to measure your Husky using SportPet Design’s provided guide before purchasing.
What makes this travel crate stand out from the rest is the added considerations to help you as the owner. There are two appropriately placed handles to make lifting the crate easier and there is snap on wheels that allow you to pull the crate around rather than having to carry it yourself. The crate is IATA approved meaning it is suitable to fly with and has passed all the necessary regulations. The crate also comes with 2 attachable water dishes and four ‘Live Animals’ stickers.
Sadly, this crate is not available to purchase in the UK but our friends over there recommend the Petmate Skykennel as a suitable alternative. It has very similar features including clip-on bowls, extra ventilation openings, and a four-way vault door to provide added security. Please note that despite having similar dimensions to the SportPet crate, the Petmate Skykennel has a listed weight limit of 90lbs.
